The biggest coral reef has been dying for the last 30 years. Due to the water’s high acidity and rising temperatures the reef system is being destroyed. Scientists say that until 2100 Great Barrier Reef might disappear completely.
Venice.
This city has been gradually going underwater for decades. Water level is rising because of the glaciers melting. According to the prognosis of the scientists Venice might become unsuited for living as soon as 2028 and in 2100 might be completely underwater.
Dead sea.
In the last 4 years the area of the sea has decreased by a third. It also lost 24 meters of deepness. The only soured of the sea – Jordan river – is actively used by both Israel and Palestine. And while the countries keep on exploiting the river, Dead Sea might be completely gone in 50 years.
Maldives.
Average heights of the Maldives is only 1.5 meters above sea level – this makes it the lowest country in the world. Because of the rising sea levels Maldives might become totally submerged in just 100 years. The population of Maldives might just become the first eco-refugees.
Great Wall of China.
The biggest man-made construction might fall victim to global warming. Because of the shifts in temperatures ground under the wall becomes more and more eroded. The Wall has already lost 2/3 of its integrity. Scientists say that 2030-s might be the last decade for the Wall.
